"I enjoy the flexibility and understanding that I receive from the staff and my service coordinator regarding the needs of my special family.  Thru CWI, we have gained a great deal of supports and services for my daughter with severe autism. These services such as respite, residential habilitation, the personal assistant program, and others have helped to provide the much needed one on one support that my daughter requires. It has also made family outings a possibility as it provides our family of 5 with the extra support that we need to ensure that it will be a positive experience for everyone. The agency has been very willing to work with us, even when we were not happy to make sure that they could do whatever was necessary to make our experience better. "

"My name is Karene Fish and I have attended Helping Hands Day Program since October 2008.  Prior to attending Helping Hands, I worked at North Country Ventures for two weeks and then resigned because it was too stressful for me.
  I am an articulate, soft-spoken woman and have always resided with my mother.  Prior to finding out about CWI, I primarily spent my days at home with her.  I felt that I wanted more out of life and that I wanted my own identity.  I am proud to say that Helping Hands has helped me find my own identity.  I enjoy attending Helping Hands because I look forward to the social interaction between both staff and peers alike.  I also look forward to the community integration and volunteer work that we consumers at Helping Hands pride ourselves in.   Volunteer programs such as Community Action, which provide toys, clothing and food to those in need; and the local soup kitchen, where I help to keep clean and actually serve individuals give me a sense of purpose.  Staff say that I am also a tremendous asset to the program and am considered to be a mother-like figure; offering help and support to my peers.
  Since attending Helping Hands, I have advanced tremendously in the areas such as social skills, community interaction, and have even improved on my reading skills.  I appreciate  the support of the Consumer Facilitator and the Day Services Manager.

"I have been working with CWI for 23 years.  I am proud of myself for what I can do.  My mother and father are pleased that I have done so well with having my own apartment.  I feel happy and like to help my roommate.  She is my friend.  We live in Queensbury and are able to go out to eat and go shopping when we want to.  We enjoy walking to the stores for shopping.  We go where we want to go.  Staff help us to manage our money and to keep independent, but I pay my own bills and take care of my own medicines.  Staff are easy to get along with and helpful.  I have had a lot of experiences with staff.  To tell you the truth, if I didn’t show up for work or program, people would miss me and wonder where that Jennifer was!"
